The Spice & Seasonings SECTOR is a traditional sector in which small an medium sized companies coexist with multinational companies.
According to Mercasa study, there are currently 110 manufacturers and marketers of spices operating in the market. Castilla - La Mancha and Valencia are the regions where there are more active spice companies, followed by Murcia, Aragon, Catalonia and Andalusia.
Imports are significant because Spain does not produce some of the most important spices, such as pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves, curry, etc..
Spanish exports of spices, according to Mercasa, are also significant. Two clear cases are saffron and paprika, which for its quality and prestige report a high added value. They are exported mainly to the European Union, the United States and Arab countries.
Spices are sold in glass containers, bags and metal cans. In addition, the industry sells spices to other industries (the ones manufacturing sauces, meats, etc..).
